THANK YOU

Thank you! Each and every one of you have been so kind to Mike and our family during this time.

Mike was formally diagnosed with a type of Leukemia called Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) on March  9th 2012.  He began Chemotherapy the evening of March 9.  The chemotherapy lasted for one week.  Mike will remain in the hospital for another 2-3 weeks while his body recovers.  We expect to find out in the next week that the leukemia is in remission.

Many of you have asked what will happen next for Mike.  At this point, after the leukemia goes into remission, Mike will have a stem cell transplantation.  Many of you have been so kind as to offer to be a donor in hopes of being a match with Mike.  Mike’s four siblings have all been tested to see if we are a match with Mike.  In the event one of us is not a match, there is a 90-95 percent chance that we will find a match for Mike in The National Marrow Donor Program.  We are contemplating doing a local blood drive, and in the event we do go forward, we will let all of you know the details of such an event.

When Mike leaves the hospital he will meet with Doctors to select who he wants to work with for the stem cell transplantation.  Many of you have been very kind to offer help in this area as people have had some experience with leukemia.  At this point, we think Mike will be choosing between Memorial Sloane Kettering and Cornell Medical Center.  We have had the Chief of the Leukemia and Stem Cell Transplantation at MD Anderson in Texas review Mike’s case, but have determined that staying in NY will be best for Mike in the months following the procedure.

  5. Hi Michael,
Thoughts of you are with me every day. I am saying the prayer a few times a day and feel with so many people saying the same prayer that our voices will be heard. I wish that I could see you and will once you are stronger. Last week Alyssa and I were in California visiting with Sean and Shannon but we were updated daily on your progress. I will keep in touch with Tina and be available to her whenever possible. Stay strong. I am hopeful that our prayers will all be answered and you will be on the road to recovery and we will take family vacation and build more family memories. Memories last a lifetime and more - I love you,
    Corinne

  23. Mike,

I couldn’t be happier for you and your family that you are getting stronger. We pray for and think of you daily.

Whether you realize it or not, you’ve always had a huge positive impact on the people you come in contact with. I love to hear my brother tell me, “I ran into Mike O’Shea and all we did was laugh.” Or when my mom sees you and mentions, “That Michael O’Shea is such a gentleman. His parents did a great job.” I’m sure there are hundreds of others who can echo the same sentiment.

You're a great guy and I wish you all the best in your speedy recovery. Stay strong, brother.

    Love,
    Scott Gensch & Family

  24. Dear Mike: So Happy to hear that the first part of your healing is already in motion. Praying for a quick recovery and you've reached the first goal. Praise God! Now here is a good idea, put a sign on the door of your room that reads, "Staff's Lounge" and have a bowl of goodies for the staff. You'll be treated special for sure.☺ Seriously, you are in my thoughts and prayers and looking forward to hearing a full recovery. Tina, if there is anything I can do, please let me know? ♥ Allie

  25. One of my favorite prayer...

Heavenly Father, we call on you right now in a special way. It is through your power that we were created. Every breath we take, every morning we wake, and every moment of every hour we live under your power.

Father, we ask you now to touch the spirt, soul and body of thy child, Mike O'Shea, with that same power. Fill him with the healing power of your spirit. Cast out anything that should not be in him. Mend what is infected, root any infection, rebuild and restore him and cleanse him from all inflammation.

Let the warmth of your healing love pass through his body to make new any unhealthy areas so that his body will function the way you created him to function.

And father, restore him to full heal in mind and body.

We ask this humbly through Christ our Lord.

*** Tina - please let me know if you need anything, with the kids, grocery etc... ***

    Our prays are with you....
    Kim and family.....
